Aleene's Ocean Resin Coasters

Who doesn’t love the beach? The ocean’s limitless waves crashing upon sparkling sands is truly a sight to behold! Since you can’t bring the whole ocean home with you, bring a piece of it indoors with these ocean-inspired DIY resin coasters. This tutorial from Craft Box Girls will show you how to make majestic coasters that will have you feeling beachy all the time!

What you need:

  •        Aleene’s Clear Casting & Coating Epoxy Resin Kit
  •        Silicone coaster molds
  •        Safety gear (rubber gloves, glasses, mask)
  •        Mix-ins (glitter, mica powder, pigments)
  •        Plastic cups
  •        Wooden stir sticks
  •        Heat gun

Step 1

measure a 1:1 ratio of hardener and resin into plastic cups

Be sure to read the included safety precautions and step-by-step instructions included in the Aleene’s Clear Casting & Coating Epoxy Resin Kit before getting started your DIY resin coasters. Wearing your protective safety gear, measure a 1:1 ratio of hardener and resin into separate plastic cups.

Step 2

Combine hardener and resin, stir.

Combine the two into a separate plastic cup, and mix with a wooden stir stick for 3 to 5 minutes.

Step 3

Separate into smaller cups and add mix-ins

Pour the epoxy mixture into separate smaller cups. Add your mix-ins and stir until well combined.

Step 4

Pour epoxy into silicone molds.

Once your epoxy mixtures are prepared, carefully pour them into the silicone molds to create your DIY resin coasters. Start with the copper glitter for the sand, then white for ocean foam, followed by blue and teal for the water. Let the resins swirl together to create an abstract wave pattern that looks like the beach!

Step 5

Use a heat gun to remove bubbles.

Use a heat gun to remove bubbles from your epoxy projects before they set. Then allow your DIY resin coasters to cure at room temperature for 24 to 48 hours or until fully hardened.

Step 6

Completed epoxy resin tabletop games

Once the epoxy has fully cured, remove your DIY resin coasters from their molds. Pour yourself a cold one and get ready to relax like you’re at the beach!
