Easy Holiday Decoration Idea with Decoupage

Tis the season to let your creativity shine! This easy holiday decoration idea from Ivy Pink Made uses Aleene’s Premium Decoupage to create glitter letters that sparkle with Christmas JOY. Check out this easy tutorial and get inspired to DIY your own creative Christmas decorations that spread cheer where ever they’re displayed!

What you need:

- Aleene’s Premium Decoupage – Matte

- Wood letters for desired word

- Glitters in desired colors

- Acrylic paints that match glitter colors

- Paper plates

- Foam brushes

- Round foam daubers

Step 1

JOY sign supplies

For this holiday decoration idea, you can choose traditional colors or get creative with an unexpected color palette. You can even do what Ivy Pink Made did and substitute a shape like a star in place of letters – have fun with it!

Step 2

Paint letters with acrylic paint

Start by base coating each letter with a coat of paint in a color that matches the glitters you are going to use for each letter.

Step 3

Coat with Decoupage and glitter

Once the paint has dried, working with one letter at a time, brush a coat of Decoupage onto the letter and sprinkle the matching glitter color over the glue. Let dry and shake off excess glitter, then repeat with an additional coat of Decoupage and glitter.

Step 4

Create glitter polka dots on letters

To create polka dots on this sparkling holiday decoration idea, use a round sponge pouncer to pounce dots of Decoupage randomly onto each letter, then sprinkle glitter over the dots. Let dry and repeat with a second coat of glitter if needed.

Step 5

JOY Holiday Sign

Once dry, your glitter letters are ready to put on display! They’ll make a great table centerpiece for Christmas dinner, or pretty adorning a mantle as well.
