Easy Paper Gingerbread House

Picture of Easy Paper Gingerbread House

Does anyone actually eat the gingerbread houses they make? Especially after all of the fun it is to create them! If you're more about displaying your child's hard work than eating it (there's no judgment of course, since we also love eating - especially sweets), this gingerbread house craft is for you. Our friends at Project Kid show you how to make a paper gingerbread house using Aleene's Original Tacky Glue and supplies you likely already have in your craft stash. Get the kids together and have some fun with this easy Christmas craft!

What you need:

Aleene's Original Tacky Glue

- Square tissue box

- Scissors

- Cardboard

- Cardstock - desired colors + white

- Red and white paper straws

- Felt - green

- Mini pompoms - red and white

- Paint pen - white

- Cupcake liner - white

- Chenille stems

- Iridescent glitter

- Foam brush

To create the main pieces for the house, trace the side of the tissue box onto cardboard and cut out. Repeat to make a second piece. Print template, trace, and cut cardboard sides for the front and the back of the house. Cut a 5 ½ by 8 ½ piece of cardboard for the roof (make sure the corrugation is in the direction of the fold).

Glue the four cardboard sides to the box with Tacky Glue, with the front and back opposite one another.

Bend the roof piece in half and add glue to the top edges of the front and back pieces. Press the roof piece in place on the top edges.

Cut paper straws at an angle and glue them to the side edges of the front of the house. Glue two more to the front edge of the roof. Cut colored cardstock into doors and windows and make a candy window by attaching small segments of a cupcake liner to the sides of a circular window. Make a mini wreath by twisting a green pipe cleaner into a circle. Glue on a small pipe cleaner bow, and glue to the front door.

To create a snowy roof, cut a piece of white cardstock to fit the roof, creating "drip shapes" on opposite sides. Use a foam brush to brush an even layer of Tacky Glue onto cardstock and sprinkle with iridescent glitter. Fold in half and glue to the roof.

Cut holly leaves from green felt and glue them to the apex of the roof with three mini red pom-poms. Use a white paint pen to draw fun designs onto the house as desired.

Look at how cute this paper gingerbread house is! And the best part ... you don't have to toss this house when the season is over. Once you're finished crafting, you can head to the kitchen to whip up a batch of gingerbread cookies to satisfy your sweet tooth!
