Create Projects with Aleene’s Glues

Personalized Backpack and Tablet Case with Fabric Glue

Heading back to class is a must, but having boring accessories isn’t! Oh Yay Studio will show you how to make easy style upgrades to back-to-school essentials like backpacks and tablet/computer cases using felt and Aleene’s Permanent Fabric Glue.

What you need:

Aleene’s Permanent Fabric Glue

- Backpack and tablet case

- Felt in desired colors

- Scissors

- Floral patterns

- Sewing pins

- Embroidery thread and needle (optional)

Step 1

Print and cut out flower patterns

For this backpack and tablet personalization project, Oh Yay Studio decided to make flower patches out of felt. She recommends using LOTS of colors – the more the better! You can wing it when it comes to cutting out your flower shapes, or print patterns that you like from online and cut them out.

Step 2

Cut out flower shapes from felt

Decide which colors of felt you want to use for your flower layers, then pin your flower patterns onto the different felt colors to help hold in place as you cut out the shapes.

Step 3

Lay out flowers on backpack

Lay out the felt flowers and leaves on your backpack to determine which placements you like best before gluing to the bag.

Step 4

Apply Permanent Fabric Glue to back of top flower layer

Working with one flower (including layers) at a time so you don’t accidentally mess up your entire arrangement, apply Permanent Fabric Glue to the back of top layer and press in place on the base layer. Tip from Oh Yay Studio: Don’t be afraid to be generous with your glue application since you are working with dense felt and sturdy backpack fabric! You can wipe up any glue that sneaks out with a damp cloth after pressing in place.

Step 5

Glue entire flower onto backpack

Once you have your felt flower layers glued together, add glue to the back of the base and firmly press in place on the backpack.

Step 6

Let flowers dry completely after gluing

Continue the process, working with one flower/leaf arrangement at a time. Once everything is glued in place, let dry completely.

Step 7

Optional: stitch details onto flowers

This part is optional, but it adds a fun touch to your flower patches! Use an embroidery needle and thread to stitch lines and extra details onto the flowers.

Step 8

Continue stitching details if desired

You don’t have to add stitched details to every flower – unless you want to!

Step 9

Repeat steps on tablet case

Repeat the steps above on the tablet case so it matches the backpack!

Step 10
