Winter weather is in full swing, and we still have a ways to go before the chill lets up. Mittens are a MUST if you're heading out into the cold; no one likes freezing fingertips, especially when you have stuff to do! Before you splurge on a pricey new pair, get out that old sweater you've been thinking of tossing (thanks to moth holes - ugh - or normal wear and tear) and spend a little time having some fun with this upcycle idea! This tutorial from Club Crafted shows you how to upcycle your sweater into a cute pair of no-sew mittens using Aleene's® Fabric Fusion®. Winter weather beware, you've got a toasty new set of mittens to chase away the chills!
- Sweater (tighly woven, not cable knit)
- Scissors
- Marker
- Rhinestones or other embellishments if desired
Turn your sweater inside out and lay flat on your work surface, smoothing out any wrinkles. Use a marker to trace a mitten shape around your hand.
Once you have your mitten shape, cut out through both layers of the sweater.
Flip your mitten cutout over and trace onto the sweater to create the mitten shape for your other hand. Cut out.
With right sides together, squeeze a thin line of glue around the edge of each bottom piece, leaving only the bottom edges without glue. Let dry completely before flipping mittens right side out.
Glue rhinestones, pompoms or other cute embellishments onto your mittens and let dry. Now you're ready to keep your hands cute & cozy til spring comes! Such a great upcycle idea, don't you think?!
